Supermarket law: the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and the Food and Grocery Code

Commonwealth law

What the video says

Which level of law governs supermarket conduct in Australia? The main competition rules are in a federal Act. It covers misuse of market power and unconscionable conduct. For conduct since the twenty-eighth of March, the maximum penalty for a company is at least one hundred million dollars. A mandatory Food and Grocery Code covers how large grocery businesses deal with suppliers. It started on the first of April twenty twenty-five. From the first of July, it also has a rule on excessive shelf prices for retailers over thirty billion dollars. The ACCC enforces the Code. Victoria's Shop Trading Reform Act covers shop trading days. Two Senate bills on market power are not law.
