Electric car FBT exemption: s 8A of the Fringe Benefits Tax Assessment Act 1986

LAW · in force

What the video says

Zero fringe benefits tax on an eligible electric car your employer provides.

It's section eight A of the Fringe Benefits Tax Assessment Act, added by a twenty twenty-two Act. Royal assent: twelve December twenty twenty-two.

Three conditions. A current employee. A battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell car, first held and used from one July twenty twenty-two. And no luxury car tax payable on it.

Plug-in hybrids dropped out on one April twenty twenty-five, except some existing arrangements.

There's no end date. The Act requires a review, with a report due by mid twenty twenty-seven.

To remove it, a new Act must pass both Houses and get royal assent. It starts on the date it sets, and could protect existing arrangements, like the hybrid change did.
