Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (2027 Conservation Theme for Prioritising Nominations of Threatened Species, Threatened Ecological Communities and Key Threatening Processes) Determination 2026

Commonwealth law

What the video says

This new environment instrument's working part is just one sentence. It sets a conservation theme for the threatened species assessment period starting the 1st of October 2027. The theme: nominations that support the protection and recovery of species and ecological communities imperilled by catastrophic events. Examples given: the harmful algal bloom, and outbreaks of H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza. Who's affected? Anyone nominating: it encourages nominations of anything impacted by those events. And the scientific committee has regard to it when drafting its priority assessment list. What it doesn't do: list or change the status of any species, or impose obligations on anyone. It's not disallowable, it sunsets in 2037, and the committee backs the theme. One sentence, job done.

The voiceover, as written in the video’s script.
