What the video says
Righto, there's a new national recovery plan for a critically endangered forest, and what's left is up to around 16 hectares. It's the Elderslie Banksia Scrub Forest, in Camden and Campbelltown, and over 90 per cent of it is estimated to have been cleared. Fun fact, it includes coast banksia, a plant more typical of coastal dunes, growing on old river sand. Its threats are very suburban: clearing for development, escaped garden plants, rabbits, cats, rubbish dumping and trail bikes. So the plan says keep every remaining patch, double the recommended buffer to 60 metres, and fence areas off. The targets are to hold the line at 16 hectares, then restore it past that within 10 years. Only 5 public submissions came in, but now the Commonwealth's bound by a big plan for a tiny forest.
