Woomera Prohibited Area (Specified Items) Instrument 2026

Commonwealth law

What the video says

This one's a Defence instrument for the Woomera Prohibited Area in South Australia. It lists the items a person can't have or operate there without the Defence Minister's written approval.

The list covers devices that record or transmit information, anything with an emission detectable beyond 1 kilometre, seismic gear, structures over 30 metres, firearms and explosives, autonomous systems, and any aircraft, including drones.

Communications equipment a person is required to carry is exempt from the first item.

The instrument creates no offence itself, but doing any of it without approval may be an offence under the Defence Act.

Defence says it formalises existing arrangements, with no extra regulatory burden expected. It started the day after registration. Worth a read if you fly or build near the outback.

The voiceover, as written in the video’s script.
