Family Tax Benefit health check: Commonwealth programs now count

LAW · in force

What the video says

One word added to family tax benefit law. From 30 October 2026, a child health check under a Commonwealth program can count.

Section 61A of the Family Assistance Act reduces the FTB child rate for some families if the check isn't met by age five.

Who: in the year the child turned four, the family got FTB plus a pension or benefit, and was sent a notice.

The check is set by a 2018 Determination. It must happen between age three and the day before age five.

Until now, that listed a State or Territory program. This instrument inserts one word: Commonwealth.

The explanatory statement says this includes the Medicare Healthy Kids Check, from 1 November 2026. Parents still tell Services Australia.
