Smart glasses: an ACT motion

Assembly motion · not law

What the video says

The ACT Assembly passed a motion on 22 October. A motion is not law.

It asks the Government to act. It bans nothing itself.

The motion says the eSafety Commissioner identified risks including “covert recording, image-based abuse and cyber abuse.” It also says smart glasses can provide “important disability, accessibility and assistive-technology benefits.”

It calls on the Government to prohibit them in places like pools, with exceptions, and to report back by the first sitting week of 2027.

Today, ACT public pool standards allow removal for filming without consent, or using a recording device in a change room. The Government says it will consider further steps if gaps are found.

Nothing new is law yet. I'm not taking a side. Where would you draw the line?

The voiceover, as written in the video’s script.
