Castle Law in NSW

Bill · not law

Second reading debate adjourned 12 Nov 2025

What the video says

Castle Law in New South Wales. It's a bill. It's not law.

Today, section 418 of the Crimes Act covers self-defence, including to protect property or stop trespass. You must believe it's necessary, and your response must be reasonable.

Section 420 sets a limit. Self-defence doesn't apply if you intentionally or recklessly cause death only to protect property or stop trespass.

The bill would replace section 420. In certain circumstances, it would permit self-defence involving death, to protect a dwelling-house. It also adds a twelve-month pepper spray trial.

Status: introduced in the Legislative Council on 12 November 2025. Debate was adjourned that day. It has not passed.

I'm not taking a side. Read the bill yourself. What would you ask first?

The voiceover, as written in the video’s script.
