Can you shop in Perth before 11am on a Sunday?

WA law · in force

What the video says

Can you shop in Perth before 11 on a Sunday? Depends on the shop.

Western Australia's Retail Trading Hours Act sorts shops into four types.

General retail shops in metro Perth must be closed on Sundays until 11 a.m., and from 5 p.m.

Certified small shops can open any time. Special shops, from 6 a.m. Filling stations, any time. Outside Perth, the default is closed.

What's changing? A private member's bill, introduced 16 September, swaps one time: 11 a.m. becomes 8 a.m.

It hasn't passed. It's at second reading in the Legislative Assembly. If passed, it starts 28 days after royal assent.

The count: four shop types, six Sunday settings, 11 special shop categories, 23 amending Acts. The bill changes one setting.
